About
Hello and welcome to the FGCILORIN old student’s blog. Shortly after an appeal to raise funds to refurbish the school buildings, a few of us decided to come together to create a channel to co ordinate activities and facilitate communications between old students.
We also hoped to be able to provide a forum for some of the current students to link up with old students who might be in a position to advise and mentor them.In order to ensure that it would work for the reasons above as well as an online social meeting point.
We created this blog, a forum, gallery, guestbook and are working on adding chat and other nice tools to ensure you get the most out of the time you spend on the site. Please register and enjoy, remember this channel belongs to all of us so all comments are welcome. We decided, possibly due to the advanced age of some of our classmates that it would help to have a site name which we could all remember.
After some consideration, some bright spark came up with (FGCILORIN) not sure who exactly, but it was available anyway, so we got it. Next we looked at the issue of administrative overheads. What we found, was that a blog and a forum (plan to add chat later) would be the most reasonable means of utilising minimum effort to update classmates in different parts of the world with maximum communications return, so we turned to wordpress.
Despite the long winded explanation above as to how we got here, it is important that we make it clear that although this started as an initial effort by some old students, the purpose of this site is for all students past, present and hopefully future to have a means to reflect upon shared experiences and maybe positively influence those who come after us.
With regards to the site development, I urge patience as it is still under development and should be fully functional by January 2008. Hopefully the real IT gurus out there would by now have checked it out and realised that it is based on wordpress so any developers or artists out there, any contribution is welcome.
Please register and contribute; (only one registration is required, same username and password will work for this site and for the forum). Also, your comments will help develop our ability to build a better social tool which will hopefully improve our ability to deliver on commitments to those who most need our assistance.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, please register and join me in the forum.
